LAYOUT DESIGN
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Layout/Editorial Design is one of my favorite ways to create. This is a collection of various layouts I have created and my process behind them.

SEEING BEYOND THE SURFACE
Moodboard + Design Beginnings
First, I compiled my ideas into a moodboard to capture the essence of Rome and the feeling of studying abroad. I wanted to play around with the idea of “experiencing” the artwork rather than just studying it.
Next, I used photos from the author’s experience abroad for a personal connection to the layout. I edited the photos in Photoshop to give them a slight texture.
Finally, I combined everything in InDesign to bring my vision to life.

SLEEPING ON IT
Moodboard + Design Beginnings
First, I created a moodboard to convey the idea of a fairytale storybook. I wanted the design to feel simplistic and whimsical to match the photos.
Next, I created vectors in Illustrator to add details to further the idea of a storybook.
Finally, I brought everything into InDesign to create the final product.

OUTSIDE THE LINES
Moodboard + Design Beginnings
For Outside the Lines, I struggled with what exactly I wanted to design to look like. I knew I wanted it to be playful and bold – which I conveyed through my moodboard.
Once I got the photos, I had a much better idea of what I wanted the design to look like. I wanted the paint to come off the page and grab the reader.
I used Photoshop to edit the photos and cutout elements. Then, I combined everything into InDesign.
