ART DIRECTION
To start the project, I worked with the Art Direction sub-team to develop a concept that would form the foundation of the project. We decided to portray Madison Theater’s iconic history – from a silent movie house to burning down, to imagery of music from the 50s- 90s, and finally the bright future of the theater. I created storyboards using Illustrator that the rest of the team would use as the foundation of the video.
DIGITAL RENDERING
Next, I transitioned to the Digital Rendering sub-team to help create the visuals and animations for the projection mapping on the building. I created the sun and stained glass to end the video, which showed the bright future of the Madison Theater. This also became a primary visual for the project – for promotion of the team’s work in different marketing efforts.
ZOETROPES
I also worked with an animator to create zoetropes that slide across the building. These show Madison Theater’s history as a silent movie house and the intricate patterns honor the original interior of the building before it was burnt down in the 1944 fire.
LOBBY CHARACTERS
Finally, I created frame by frame animations for the lobby characters. They honor the theater’s beginnings in color and sound.
FINAL VIDEO
The final video was displayed at BLINK Cincinnati, the nation’s largest public art festival. BLINK transforms Cincinnati into a immersive experience of projection mapping, light, interactive installations, and murals.
